Tripe is the fourth chamber of the stomach of ruminating animals (cattle, sheep, goats, buffalo, deer, elk, giraffes and camels). Instead of just one chamber of the stomach, they have 4. Food is mixed with gastric juices, amino acids and other digestive enzymes in this chamber. After the solid matter of Green Tripe is digested, the gastric juices and digestive enzymes aid the animal in digesting and efficiently utilizing their food over the next several meals.
Note: Raw Green Tripe does not refer to the product color but rather the lack of processing.
“I would suggest breeders make good use of such flesh foods as the following:… paunches of all animals (the raw, uncleaned paunches of healthy grass-fed animals can be fed with much benefit to all breeds of dogs).”
– Juliette de Baïracli Levy from her book, The Complete Herbal Book for the Dog
